that ball seems stationary, but applying spin to the ball now how does that react with the air
showtime15o (December 31, 1969 at 4:59 pm)
im an aerospace engineer. in simple words, dimples causes air to "stick" to the golf-ball longer, allowing the air behind the golf ball to "push" towards the front of the ball, creating a virtual driving force allowing the ball to travel further.

wait its only recent till they discovred why the dipples were used? who put them there in the first place if they dint know hwo they worked? And it dotn take a super computer to do it, my crap 3.0ghz dual core can do this simulation with autodesk inventor...

Sounds like some hypnatic thing :P

@kakmobilis they do...its called downforce. downforce is waaaaaaaay more important to F1 drivers than going fast in a straight line. plus if you go really fast without downforce then the front end will lift up and the car will flip....we dont want that lol.

@kakmobilis nascar did have a few cars arrive one year with a shark skin type sticker applied to d pillar it was outlawed

to bad a gulf isn't static wen flying it has back spin so this is a non experiment it may explane how dimples work on say a car but that's not how it works for a gulf ball now somebody tell me gulf balls aren't spinning wen they fly then type why gulf balls have dimples and listen to the math guy |
