Attended the last Christmas party for a while, last Sunday.  Ate way too much food.

I found out how to download youtube videos into my iPod and how to subscribe to podcasts.   The iPod is quite a piece of technology when I consider what this can do and compared to what I had as a kid.

I received a bust statue of Shakespear with a secret switch in it, like that from the original Batman TV series and I also received a binary clock that I’ve been wanting for many years.  And all of it was free, thanks to freecycle.org.

Do you like things for free?  (sure we all do).  Go to yahoo.com and then click on groups on the left hand side.  Lookup freecycle.org and join under  your county.  People are giving things away that they no longer want or need, and it keeps the stuff out of the landfill.  You can also post things that you want.  One mans junk, is another mans treasure.  I even received a 32″ color tv that I use with my vcr.  So check it out and see what you can find for free.

I bought some new computer memory to upgrade my laptop but it didn’t work.  I sent it back to the company and they are sending me a replacement.  Still waiting…

The Christmas rush is over.  No more shopping for gifts or listening to Christmas music.  I got my fill of driving, shopping, crowds, and relatives.  Now onto the new years resolutions.

I received some books, so I’ll need to get those read.  Didn’t receive a Christmas bonus.  Oh well, guess the grinch got that one.  Overall, the week went past fairly quickly.

I tried a Nintendo Wii at someones house for the first time.  That thing is too much work to have virtual fun.  Doing those things are much more fun when you actually do them.  Like going outside and playing baseball, or bowling, or tennis.  However, I do see a benefit to this for people in nursing homes who can’t get out.

I discovered Google Trends this week and have experimented with this information.  Hopefully it will be profitable to me in the new year.

Looking forward to a great New Year.  With the exception of the president elect who refuses to produce an actual birth certificate.  A certificate of live birth and a certification of live birth are two different things.

Thanks to a valuable email I received, I came to realize that a blog should be used as a personal newspaper and I am the editor.

This week I received a nice check for some things I worked on last month.  Since its December, I’m hoping that my earnings will exceed last months.  Time will tell.  (and if you owned a talking clock…),  anyway, we’ll see.

I have been notified of a new affiliate site that looks real easy to use.  Its mostly for beginners, so I didn’t act on it.  I’ve seen sites like this before, but this one is a lot better.  Take a look and see for yourself,   http://InstantAffiliateWebsite.com

I found an excellent site that has a lot of business interviews that you can download for free.  I plan to utilize this one more in the coming year while in my drive time university.  http://www.hardtofindseminars.com/audioclips.htm

Well, its the last shopping weekend before Christmas.  I hope you have all of your shopping done by now.  If not, my classifieds have plenty to see on the left hand side of the blog.

Have a Merry Christmas, and check back next week.

The iPod video is known as the last generation of iPods, which surprised the market and the sales since its appearance. Basically, this new device is able to play videos. If this seems like fun, the technical part might need some guidance.

Firstly, you should know that both the PSP and iPod can play H.264 / MPEG-4 encoded videos with AAC audio tracks. Due to this fact, the resolution is rather limited, together with the limitation of the bit rates that you can use on the device. For the new iPod video, this limits means (for the H.264 video) up to up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240 and 30 frames per second. For the MPEG-4 video, the limits are up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480 and the same 30 frames per second. Even more, the AAC audio bit rate is around 160 Kbps. After establishing these limits, the next step is to establish the source of the video, which can be either from a DVD or a video of the computer.

In other terms, the company Apple claims, in a purely informative ad which is posted on the official website, that the new iPod, as they call the new iPod video, can store 15, 000 songs, 25, 000 photos and not less than 150 hours of video.

If wanting to get a video from a DVD, then the first thing you should do is to insert the DVD in the device. After this, you should open (in case it doesn’t immediately open by itself) the DVD, using file and open DVD from the menu. Check the options in the DVD menu, to set up everything as you like, meaning language, subtitles or chapters. Begin playing the movie, using the DVD menu to navigate. When the movie begins, you should press the record button and select the folder in which you want to store the recorded files. When you want to end the recording, simply click the stop button and if the recording goes well, there will be a screen confirmation that you have converted your file successfully.

If you wish to convert a video from your computer to your iPod video, then the first thing that you should do is go to the menu file and click open video file. After this, your video is supposed to begin to play, the perfect moment to adjust the video as you like. Also, you can set the perfect moment to start the recording, using the bottom playback controls. When you decided this, click the button record and feel free to stop it at any time. After recording, just like in the case of importing videos from a DVD device, there will be a message on the screen saying that everything went on successfully.

If respecting these basic rules, the videos and movies will be stored carefully in your iPod and you will be free to watch them, at any time. Still, be aware of the fact that the iPod offers limited space and resolution, which means that you should be picky when deciding what to keep and what to delete. The new iPod video is a challenging and innovative product that combines music with images, offering, for the first time, the possibility of playing video on such a small digital device.

A crane is a tower or derrick that is equipped with
cables and pulleys that are used to lift and lower
material.  They are commonly used in the construction
industry and in the manufacturing of heavy equipment.
Cranes for construction are normally temporary
structures, either fixed to the ground or mounted
on a purpose built vehicle.

They can either be controlled from an operator in
a cab that travels along with the crane, by a push
button pendant control station, or by radio type
controls.  The crane operator is ultimately responsible
for the safety of the crews and the crane.

Medieval cranes
Cranes of the Middle Ages were used to build the
cathedrals of Europe.  The crane was fixed on top
of a wall as it was being constructed and was
powered by men that ran inside of two large wheels
on each side.  Cranes were also used in medieval ports
and in shipyards.

Mobile cranes
The most basic type of crane consists of a steel
truss or telescopic boom mounted on a mobile platform,
which could be a rail, wheeled, or even on a cat
truck.  The boom is hinged at the bottom and can
be either raised or lowered by cables or hydraulic
cylinders.

Telescopic crane
This type of crane offers a boom that consists of
a number of tubes fitted one inside of the other.
A hydraulic mechanism extends or retracts the
tubes to increase or decrease the length of the
boom.

Tower crane
The tower crane is a modern form of a balance
crane.  When fixed to the ground, tower cranes
will often give the best combination of height and
lifting capacity and are also used when constructing
tall buildings.

Truck mounted crane
Cranes mounted on a rubber tire truck will provide
great mobility.  Outriggers that extend vertically
or horizontally are used to level and stabilize
the crane during hoisting.

Rough terrain crane
A crane that is mounted on an undercarriage with
four rubber tires, designed for operations off
road.  The outriggers extend vertically and
horizontally to level and stabilize the crane when
hoisting.  These types of cranes are single engine
machines where the same engine is used for powering
the undercarriage as it is for powering the
crane.  In these types of cranes, the engine is
normally mounted in the undercarriage rather than
in the upper portion.

Loader crane
A loader crane is a hydraulically powered articulated
arm fitted to a trailer, used to load equipment
onto a trailer.  The numerous sections can be
folded into a small space when the crane isn’t in
use.

Overhead crane
Also refered to as a suspended crane, this type
is normally used in a factory, with some of them
being able to lift very heavy loads. The hoist is
set on a trolley which will move in one direction
along one or two beams, which move at angles to
that direction along elevated or ground level
tracks, often mounted along the side of an assembly
area.

In the excavation world, cranes are used to move
equipment or machinery.  Cranes can quickly and
easily move machinery into trenches or down steep
hills, or even pipe.  There are many types of
cranes available, serving everything from
excavation to road work.

Cranes are also beneficial to building bridges or
construction.  For many years, cranes have proven
to be an asset to the industry of construction
and excavating.  Crane operators make really good
money, no matter what type of crane they are
operating.
